Running form and technique
Running Form Analysis
A running form analysis is a slow motion video review of how you run. You film a short clip, I review your posture, foot strike, cadence and arm drive, and you get a written report with the drills to fix what I find. It is included with both Run The Race coaching packages.
- Included in every package
- Written report and drills
- 10 week form programme
How does an online form analysis work?
What does a running form analysis look at?
- Posture and lean
- Foot strike and where your foot lands relative to your hips
- Cadence and stride length
- Arm drive and shoulder tension
- Hip, knee and ankle movement
- How your form changes when you get tired
Why does running form matter?
Most runners are not held back by their fitness. They are held back by how they move. Small changes to posture and cadence often make running feel easier at the same pace. Form work is about efficiency and moving well. It is not a medical assessment, and if something hurts you should see a physio.
How do I get one?
Every athlete who joins Ask the Coach or Personalised Coaching starts with a full form analysis. It is the first thing I do.
Questions runners ask
What is a running form analysis?
A slow motion video review of how you run, covering posture, foot strike, cadence and arm drive, followed by a report with corrective drills.
Can running form be analysed online?
Yes. You film a short clip from the side and from behind, and the review is done in slow motion from the video.
How much does a running form analysis cost?
At Run The Race it is included with both coaching packages, Ask the Coach at $25 a fortnight and Personalised Coaching at $75 a fortnight.
Can I change my running form?
Yes, gradually. Drills, strength work and small cues over several weeks are what change form. That is why the 10 week running form programme is included.
Will better form stop injuries?
No one can promise that. Better form can make running more efficient and help you spot issues early, but injuries have many causes. See a physio for pain.
How do I film my running for analysis?
Use a phone held steady at hip height, film about ten seconds from the side and ten from behind, at your normal easy pace on a flat surface.
